Without (lEka) understanding (erunga) the greatness (mahimanu) (mahimanerunga) of Your (nI) mantra, they speak (palkeru) as if it is very ordinary (sAmAnyulai).

Talking (palkucu) philosophy (tatvamu) while still groping in dark (tAmasambu cEta) (literally being at inertial level),
remaining slaves (dAsulai) of lust (kAma) and having no (mAli) compassion (karuNa) in the mind (madini),
roaming about (sancarinci) the World (bhUmi) filling (nimpucunu) their stomach (poTTa), and
lo! they say (aTa) they alone (tAmE) are great (peddalu) (peddalaTa)!
O Lord praised (nuta) by this tyAgarAja! What can I say about the strange behaviour of people in this World?
