As Your missile (Saramu) (literally arrow) chased (tarama) and as it became impossible (taramu gAka) (to avoid it), the crow-demon (kAka asuruDu) (kAkAsuruDu) had to (Aye) pray (vEDa) to the celestials (surulanu) (surulanAye) (for protection); but (gAnu),
as the celestials moved away (jaraga) in fright (veraci) that (anucunu) it is the missile (bANamu) (bANamanucunu) of SrI rAma – the blessed (vara) son (kumAruni) of King daSaratha,
he - (kAkAsura) turning back (marala), seeing (kani) You (tAnu), becoming terrified (gabara-baDi), the moment (mAtramu) quickly (saraguna) sought (anu) refuge (SaraNu) (SaraNanu) in You,
to such a person (ninu) who, with determination (niruvaganu), mercifully (karuNanu) and firmly (sthiramuga) gave (iccina) a boon (varamu) (varamiccina) (to kAkAsura saving his life),
to the nice (sarasata) appreciation (meccanu) of Lord Siva – the Chief (nAtha) of snow (rajata) (literally silver) mountain (giri) - and others (Adulu) (nAthadulu) as a great (varamagu) honour (biruduna) for You,
would all my words of yearning that ‘Give me refuge, Give me refuge’ - become a joke?

6 – kodavalanu adalimpumu – In some books, the meaning derived is 'forgive my faults'; in other – 'fulfill my wants'. The word 'kodava' generally means 'wants', 'deficiencies'. But the word 'adalimpu' means 'to frighten', 'to reprove'. Therefore, it has been translated as 'scare away deficiencies'. In a round-about way, it could mean 'fulfill wants', but may not mean 'forgive faults'. Generally, SrI tyAgarAja does not yearn for any material well-being excepting the necessities for performing Lord's worship. Therefore, in order that the Lord could grant him refuge (as sought by him in this kRti), the deficiencies in him have to be eradicated first. Probably, this could be intention of SrI tyAgarAja.
