caraNam
caraNam 1
donga rIti tiruganganu-Ela SrI
rangani padamula kaugilincukoni (rAma)
O My mind! why (Ela) should you roam about (tiruganganu) (tiruganganEla) like (rIti) a thief (donga)?
chant the names of Lord SrI rAma embracing (kaugilincukoni) the holy feet (padamula) of Lord of SrI rangam (rangani).
Notes
Variations - (Pathanthara)
The order of caraNas are not same in the books. In some books, caraNa 6 is missing.
2 – tanayandu – nIyandu.
3 – phalamandu kOri – phalamandu kOru - phalamandu kOra. All the caraNas (other than the last one) are connected to the pallavi through the ending word thereof. Applying the same, the word ‘kOri’ of this caraNa can connect it to pallavi. Accordingly ‘kOri’ has been adopted.
4 – bhAgayamA – This is how it is given all the books. However, in my humble opinion, this word should be ‘bhAgyamu’ because of the following words ‘dEhi dEhi’. SrI tyAgarAja seems to exhort his mind to seek the same fortune (bhAgyamu) as that of vaidEhi; otherwise these words ie., ‘dEhi dEhi’ by themselves convey no meaning – dEhi or give what?
5 – panthAnuDu – pandhAnuDu : 'panthAnuDu' is the correct word.
