that day, with Your auspicious (Subha) form (AkRtitOnu), while playing (ADaganu) (SubhAkRtitOnADaganu) with boys (bAluratO) of Your age (sari) on the kailAsa mountain (girini),
getting angry (kOpaginci) with brahmA (vidhini) who, on Your questioning, responded fearlessly (verapu lEka) that he Himself (tAnu) to be (anu) (tAnanu) the purport (arthamu) (literally meaning) of praNava (praNavArthamu),
quickly (saraguna) finding (kani) a (oka) warrior (kinkaruni) (literally servant) among (andu) the nine (nava) warriors (vIrulu) (vIrulandoka),
giving (icci) him definitive (mummAru) orders (selavu) (selavicci), listed out (varusagAnu osagina) (allotted one by one) the power(s) (Saktini) (Saktinosagina) for carrying out projection (sRshTi) - the task of brahmA,
on hearing (vini) which the celestials (surulu), vishNu – enemy (ari) of mura (murAri), and Siva – enemy (ari) of tri-pura (purAri) (purArulu) appreciated (meccaga) Your action.

(You were playing on kailAsa Mount with your friends; then, brahmA visited kailAsa; You asked Him (brahmA) the meaning of praNava; brahmA, fearlessly, replied that he Himself was the purport of praNava; this was a lie; therefore, You jailed him and took upon Yourself the job of sRshTi – projection - by assigning the task to one of Your nine warriors; this was appreciated by vishNu and Siva and celestials.)

when vishNu (hari), Siva (hara) and others (harulaku), the Lords (pAlula) of Directions (dik), Moon (SaSi) who has digits (kala), Sun (sUrya) (sUryaluku), and (mari) vidyAdhara (vidyAdharulaku), the heroes (vIra) etc. (Adulaku) (vIrAdulaku) existing (velayu) in this great Universe (brahmANDamuna),
finding it beyond their capacity (taramu gAka) to subdue the arrogance of SUra padmAsura,
joining (kUDi) together (jata), sought (anagA) Your (ninnu) refuge (SaraNu) (SaraNanagA),
hearing (vini) their pleas and unable to bear (sairincaka),
gloriously (kIrtigAnu) subdued (aNacina) the arrogance (garvamu) (garvamaNacina) of SUra padmAsura (padmAsuruni) – who was (aina) the greatest (parama) enemy (drOhi) (drOhiyaina) (of celestials).

(The arrogance of SUra padmAsura – the greatest enemy of celestials – was such that it was beyond the capacity of even Trinity, celestials and heroes of the Universe; they, joining together, sought Your refuge; heeding to their appeals, You destroyed the asura.)

O Moon (indu) Faced (mukha)! The sum total (ella) (literally all) of charm (SRngAramu) (SRngAramella) existing (kalgina) in (andu) millions (kOTulu) (kOTulandu) of cupids (mAra) would be equivalent (pOlunE) (literally resemble) to that of the tip (kona) of Your (nI) nail (gOru) (gOrunu);
O Lord kumAra who, firmly (santatamu) for ever (sArEku), implanted (nilipina) Your such an (aTu aNTi) (aTuvaNTi) auspicious (Subha) form (AkAramu) (SubhAkAramu), in my (nA) mind (madini)!
O Compassion Embodied (dayA para)! O Lotus (nIraja) Eyed (lOcana)! O Lord well praised (sannuta) by Lord Siva (SrI tyAgrAja) - who is (agu) wearer (dharuDu) (dharuDagu) of Digit (kalA) of Moon – Lord (adhipa) of Stars (tAraka) (tArakAdhipa)! O Benefactor (hita) of dependents (ASrita) (sannutASrita) on You!

1brahma puri – In one book, it is stated that this refers to sIrkAzhi in Tamil Nadu. The name of Lord Siva in the temple is brahmapurISvara – (sIrkAzhi temple)

However, in another book, this is given as ‘dharmapura’. No further details are given as to where this place ‘dharmapura’ is situated.

Their names all start with ‘vIra’ – vIra bAhu, vIra kEsari, vIra mahEndra, vIra mahESvara, vIra purandara, vIra rAkshasa, vIra mArthANDa, vIrAntaka, vIra dhIra (refer to ‘kanda purANa’ referred above).

2verapu lEka – this may be applied either to brahmA or to Lord subrahmaNya. As brahmA was telling a lie about the meaning of praNava, he should have been fearful of the consequences of such an utterance. On the otherhand, the audacity with which Lord subrahmaNya imprisoned brahmA and took upon himself the task of sRshTi may be considered ‘fearless’. Otherwise, would subrahmaNya ask His own father – Lord Siva – to come as disciple to be ‘initiated’ in praNava?

5mummAru – thrice - Uttering a word thrice makes it a proclamation.

6 - mura purArulu – the word ‘ari’ is common for ‘mura’ and ‘pura’ - murAri (vishNu) and purAri (Siva).

8 - vidyAdhara – servants of Lord Siva with magical powers.

11 - vIrAdulaku – this may refer to indra and others and not the nine warriors mentioned above.

13 - parama drOhi SUra padma – mAya – mother of SUra padma – was sent to sage kaSyapa (generator of celestials) by SukrAcArya (preceptor of asuras) for the sake begetting sons in order to vanquish the celestials. Therefore, SUra padma is considered as born enemy (parama drOhi) of celestials.

15tyAgarAja – In this kRti, this refers to Lord Siva – name of the Lord at tiruvArUr.
