people ostentate (ubbatilledaru) (literally swell) by donning (iDi) many (bahu) garbs (vEsamu) (vEsamiDi) for the sake of approbation (meppulakai).
O Lord praised (vinuta) by this tyAgarAja!
O My mind! that is not chanting of names of Lord.

Variations - (Pathanthara)
2 – ubbatilledaru – It is given as 'uppatilledaru' in all the books. There are two distinct words in telugu – 'uppatilu' (to produce) and 'ubbatillu' (to swell). In the present context, 'ubbatillu' is the appropriate word.
