“There the sun does not shine, neither do the moon and the stars; nor do these flashes of lightning shine. How can this fire? He shining, all these shine; through His lustre all these are variously illumined.” (Translation by Swami Gambhirananda).

2 – evarkkum anAdiyE – There is some doubt about this usage. ‘anAdi’ means ‘eternal’, ‘beginning-less’. However, along with the preceding (qualifying) word ‘evarkkum’ (for everyone), ‘anAdi’ is not a very appropriate usage. It should be ‘evarkkum AdiyE’ (source of everyone). Alternatively, it should be ‘anAdiyE’ only, without any qualifier. As placement of ‘evarkkum’ is such that it cannot be attached to anything else, it has been translated as ‘eternal for everyone’.
